The promise of a true paperless travel experience is one that has eluded the industry for some time as this has been dependent on technology and standards playing catch-up. The good news is that this has now become reality thanks to the efforts of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) that has driven the adoption of industry-wide practices that enable a seamless process to book and pay for airline tickets as well as all other travel sales and transactions. Known as the Electronic Miscellaneous Document (EMD) system, Amadeus and the industry’s major participants went live with this system in December 2013.
Amadeus customers can now book all travel bookings on the Amadeus Selling Platform and Amadeus Web Services in a single sitting and generate one e-ticket that encapsulates everything from an air ticket to car rental and ancillary services. This functionality is available in two basic modules. A stand-alone EMD that can be issued independently from a flight ticket for services such as car rental or lounge access, or an associated EMD that directly links a flight coupon to additional services such as excess baggage, seats or special meal charges. The benefits to Amadeus customers are centred around a seamless sales flow with the added benefit of an intuitive sales tool. This is achieved by virtue of Amadeus EMD updating information automatically in real time, including feeding all relevant data
to mid and back-office systems.
This simplification allows you to focus on the customer needs and deliver the personalised and efficient service your customers expect. The Amadeus EMD is available in cryptic mode and is already integrated into Amadeus Selling Platform, Amadeus Web Services, Amadeus Agency Manager, Amadeus Ticket Changer and Amadeus Interface Record. The service can be also used with the Amadeus ancillary services solution. Full training is already available to help you make the change and reap all the benefits of Amadeus EMD. Contact your Amadeus representative to take advantage of this in-classroom or e-learning opportunities.
