Travellers want more technology, IATA Passenger Survey reveals
Results from the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) 2017 Global Passenger Survey show that passengers expect technology to give them more control over their travel experience.
The survey found that 82% of travellers would like to be able to use a digital passport on their smartphones for as many travel activities as possible, from booking flights to passing through the airport. Biometric identification systems were the technology of choice with 64% favouring biometric identifiers as their preferred travel token.
Passengers also want to be able to do more of the airport processes themselves by taking advantage of the latest digital self-service options. Baggage was the top activity that passengers wanted more control over.
Ethiopian Airlines first in Africa to operate 787-9 Dreamliner
Ethiopian Airlines has become the first on the continent to receive and operate the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
Tewolde GebreMariam, Group CEO Ethiopian Airlines, said: “Continuing our legacy of pioneering aviation technology in Africa, we are proud to celebrate yet another first with the introduction of the cutting-edge B787-9 into our young and fast-growing fleet. We will continue to invest in latest technology aircraft with the view to avail to our customers the best possible travel experience.”
The airline has also announced it will bring the Airbus A350 to Ghana from November 14. To celebrate the launch of the new aircraft- ET is offering discounted fares to Dubai and one additional extra bag allowance for both economy and business class which will be valid from now to end of November.
Seychelles welcomes Austrian Airlines
Seychelles last week welcomed the first Austrian Airline flight, which touched down at 8.49am at the Pointe Larue international airport.
The Boeing 767, fully booked with 214 passengers, was saluted on arrival with the customary water cannons. The maiden flight was inaugurated with a red-carpet ribbon cutting ceremony after which its passengers were treated to entertainment comprising traditional music and dance.
Coming directly from Vienna, the Austrian Airline will operate the winter season direct weekly flight to Seychelles every Thursday. It will leave Austria every Wednesday, arriving in Seychelles every Thursday morning. It will leave Seychelles the same day.
Jumia Travel expands in Uganda, launches Black Friday specials in Nigeria
Jumia Travel Uganda has launched a new Travel Agency in Kampala, Uganda. The new agency will allow the company to be physically on the ground and closer to the people as is located in the Central Business District.
Jumia Travel’s Country Manager for Uganda said: “Jumia Travel’s new office is testament that Jumia Travel is here to stay, with focus on building long term relationships and bonds with its growing clientele and providing all travel services at very great costs”
Meanwhile, Jumia Nigeria has announced the dates and partners for its biggest sales event of the year, Jumia Black Friday 2017!
This year’s event is billed as the Jumia Black Friday Festival and will run for 31 days from November 13th to December 13th 2017 on www.Jumia.com.ng. It will be the largest shopping event in Nigeria with up to 1 million deals and discounts on offer at up to 80% off.
First Holiday Inn hotel signed in Cape Town
IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group), has announced the signing of Holiday Inn Cape Town in partnership with Leisure Hotel Holding (Pty) Ltd.
Currently operating as Strand Tower Hotel, the property is expected to be rebranded as Holiday Inn later this year, marking the brand’s debut in the city. This signing is in line with IHG’s strategy to increase its brand’s visibility and franchise estate in South Africa.
Located in Cape Town’s Commercial Business District (CBD), the hotel will feature 242 rooms as well as a gym, sauna and steam room. For business groups and travellers, the hotel offers two large conference rooms and four break-away rooms that are ideal for training and discussion groups.
