Cyber attacks are a growing threat worldwide. An investigation by Cisco states that 130 organizations across verticals found that 75 percent of those companies are affected by adware infections. Adversaries can potentially use these infections to facilitate other malware attacks.
Amadeus East Africa recognizes the danger that cyber attacks pose to the region.
It is important that we all understand the magnitude of these attacks and work together to be more vigilant.
On Friday, 5th May Amadeus EA will be hosting the East Africa Cyber Security Forum specifically put together for the travel industry and Amadeus EA customers.
A panel of industry experts will be sharing vital information on this sensitive topic, where the threats lie and how we can avoid becoming a victim to them. Please find profiles of these speakers below:
Juan Torres (GM, Amadeus EA)
Juan Torres has overseen the East African division of Amadeus since 2011.
With a far-reaching array of experience throughout the world, he brings his vast knowledge, experience and expertise to the fast growing regional market; with a diverse background in finance, economics and technology.
His entry into the technology sector began when he joined AMADEUS IT Group in Madrid, Spain as Business Development and Strategic Planning Manager in September 2000.
In January 2004 he took responsibility of managing the Amadeus business in Central Eastern and Southern Europe and in December 2009 he became the head of Business Development for Western Europe, Middle East and Africa markets for Amadeus.
With a degree in Economics from Andes University Bogota Colombia, Juan Torres inaugurated his career as a professor for International commerce at Universidad de los Andes in 1995. He also holds a Masters degree in Economic development as well as an International MBA at the Instituto de Empressa, Madrid, Spain.
In his spare time, Juan is a sports enthusiast, involved in several team sports. He is also a member of the Public speaking club in Horsham, UK, since 2010.
Joe Mucheru (Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of ICT)
Joseph Mucheru MBS, is the current Kenyan Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology. He is a former Google Sub-Sahara Africa Lead based in the Google Nairobi office. He was Google’s first Sub-Saharan Africa employee and was key to setting up of Googles presence in Africa from 2007. Before joining Google he worked at Wananchi Online, a company he co-founded in 1999, where he held various roles at the company including Chief Technology Officer and Chief Executive Officer.
He attended the Stanford Executive Programme from Stanford University Graduate School of Business in 2008. He holds a (B Sc. (Joint Hons)) in Economics & Computer Science from City University London. He was awarded the Moran of the order of the burning spear in December 2010 by the President of the Republic of Kenya, Mwai Kibaki. He is a member of Africa Leadership Network, The National Prayer Breakfast, and the East African Business Summit.
Dan Berte – (Director, IOT Bitdefender)
Dan accelerates Bitdefender’s recognition as leader and innovator in the Internet of Things with Bitdefender BOX and its revolutionary IoT security technologies.
He serves as a spokesperson for Bitdefender, promotes the company and its awarded technologies at multiple industry events, from CES, WWDC, Google I/O, Mobile World Congress, PepCom, RSA, Websummit, CeBIT, XOXO, How to Web, Security of Things Congress to BlackHat, DefCon and more.
He also has 4 patents in the following areas;

Sam Migui – (Security Account Manager, Cisco)

George Munene – (Director, Simplify IT)
George has 18 years of experience in the IT industry.
He has done various IT implementations for several Organizations in East Africa and South Africa that include the following solutions:
- Domain Architecture deployments
- Federated deployments
- Thin Client Implementations using citrix and parallels
- Cloud Server deployments both on AWS and Azure
- Collaboration deployments using Microsoft Exchange on premise and Office 365
- Security Solutions using Bitdefender and Symantec
Geoffrey Munga – (Senior Manager Technology Security, Safaricom)
I am passionate about information security and risk management. I now have over 10 years experience in this field having worked for various organizations at a senior level. I firmly believe I have the necessary skills and experience to work in any organization and bring on board a wealth of experience and new ideas that would make a significant impact.
Dr. Bright Mawudor CPTE, PhD – (Co-Founder and Chair of AfricaHackon, Adcare)
Bright Gameli Mawudor is a Cyber Security Consultant with a PhD in IT Convergence and Application Engineering with concentration in Information Security from Pukyong National University, Busan, South Korea.
He is a founder and current chair of AfricaHackon, the first ever hands on Cyber Security Conference in East Africa and director of Foresight Tech Group, East Africa’s Premier Cyber Security Company.
He vests a lot in information technology across all platforms in forums and discussions with focus on Cyber Security.
Knowing how wide it is, he always strives to get a grip of bits and pieces of all sections even though his main interest lies with System and Network Penetration Testing, Information Security Governance and Hands On Cyber Security awareness training via multiple medium.
Bright has contributed to projects such as the OWASP Mth3l3m3nt frameworks.
Sam Odour – (Lead Systems Engineer, Internet Solutions)
Sam is a cyber security specialist at Internet Solutions Kenya.
Juliet Wangui Maina – (Associate, Triple O K Law)
Juliet Wangui Maina works in the commercial department with her area of expertise focused on Telecommunications, Media and Technology law (TMT). She has experience dealing with regulation and compliance matters across sectors, and expertise in the area of Intellectual Property having worked on a number of transaction advisory briefs and commercial agreements.
Having worked with the ICT regulator in Kenya as well an ICT consulting firm in South Africa, Juliet has accumulated experience in regulatory matters in Kenya and from a regional perspective.
Juliet received her LL. B with Honors from the University of Birmingham, UK in 2010 and later completed a Master’s program in ICT Policy and Regulation at University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. Additionally, she has completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration at the Milpark Business School, South Africa.
