Several of our valued Amadeus clients walked away with awards at the recent World Travel Awards Africa and Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony which took place in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Renowned as the “Oscars” of the global travel and tourism industry, the World Travel Awards aims to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the industry.

And the winners were…

Travelstart was the proud winner of ‘Africa’s Leading Online Travel Agency 2016’ as well as Tanzania’s Leading Travel Agency.

Commenting on the win Travelstart Head of Communications Russel Jarvis said: “Africa is one of the last frontiers in online travel and we’re delighted to receive this globally recognised accolade from the World Travel Awards.”

Jarvis attributes the win to a “sweet spot” of innovation and service delivery excellence which the company strives for. “Growth in Africa’s middle-class and travel suppliers has helped widen our footprint throughout the continent. A flood of airlines, independent low cost carriers and business opportunities have created a vibrant travel industry despite the challenges first-movers face in this part of the world,” he said.

Upon receiving the award, Mr Abbas Rajani Managing Director of Travelstart Tanzania, stated “It is an honour and we are delighted to have been recognised by the World Travel Awards panel of experts. We pride ourselves on providing consumers lowers fares as compared to other in the market. Being a young and progressive company, Travelstart is indeed a market leader in travel affordability, style and range in choice and service delivery excellence. Club World Travel Awards

Club Travel scooped no fewer than two awards. The agency took home ‘South Africa’s Leading Travel Agency’ and ‘South Africa’s Leading Travel Management Company’.

Charmaine van Niekerk, Corporate HR & Operations Director Club Travel Corporate, says: “It’s very exciting and something we work hard to achieve every year. We’re honoured that this is the eight year that we’ve done so. It’s primarily due to our passion for excellence.”

Jo Fraser, Franchise Director for Club Travel, says: “I’m very proud of Club Travel. Club Travel is quite diverse in the South African market in the sense that we work on the online side, on the corporate side as well as on the leisure side. We’re a very diverse company that plays in a lot of spaces.”

The award for Nigeria’s Leading Travel Management Company went to HRG Nigeria for the second year in a row.

Bonfire Adventures WTA

Bonfire Adventures

Bonfire Adventures was named Kenya’s Leading Travel Agency for 2016.
Said Simon Kabu, Chief Executive Officer for Bonfire Adventures: “The world has spoken. We are happy now that we are the Leading Travel Agency in Kenya. It has been a long wait. For eight years we have waited, and now it has finally happened.” Kabu thanked his team and clients for supporting the agency over the years.

KQ World Travel Awards

Kenya Airways

The award for Africa’s Leadng Airline for 2016 went to Kenya Airways. The airline also scooped up the award for Africa’s Leading Airline in Business Class

Chris Diaz, Marketing Director Kenya Airways, said: “We’re absolutely excited. Millions of customers globally chose Kenya Airways as the leading airline in Africa. We also appreciate our team and their commitment to excellence.”

Ethiopian Airlines

Ethiopian Airlines was awarded a trophy for its Economy Class and was named Africa’s Leading Airline in Economy Class.

Travelstart WTA

Air Seychelles

Air Seychelles entered the limelight no fewer than four times on the awards evening. The airline received awards for being the Indian Ocean’s Leading Airline, the Indian Ocean’s Leading Airline in Business Class, the Indian Ocean’s Leading Airline in Economy Class, as well as for having the Indian Ocean’s Leading Cabin Crew.

“Last year, three awards. This year, four awards, including the economy cabin for the first time. I don’t think anybody would have expected it. Out of this world. Clean sweep. All four. Can’t get any better than that,” said Roy Kinnear, CEO, Air Seychelles.

Concorde Mauritius

Concorde Mauritius was awarded Mauritius’ Leading Travel Agency for the second year in a row. Forming part of one of the most important group of companies in Mauritius, namely the Medine Group, Concorde is a well-established Destination Management Company operating in Mauritius for more than four decades.
